Description

Covington Board of Education is the fiscal agent for the Covington Partners in Prevention Coalition. The coalition serves Covington, Kentucky, an urban area with a population of approximately 43,000. The goals of the coalition are to 1) reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults by addressing the factors in a community that serve to minimize the risk of substance abuse and 2) strengthen the collaboration among communities, governments, and private non-profit agencies to support community coalition efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse. To achieve those goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) promote implementation of research based prevention curricula in schools;
2) promote leadership among middle and high school youth regarding drug abuse prevention topics through implementation of Covington Youth Summit;
3) support school and community based drug prevention activities;
4) establish the coalition as an independent prevention entity;
5) facilitate ten Covington Partners in Prevention meetings;
6) engage faith community leaders in Coalition mission and activities; and
7) provide two faith community forums for clergy and other leaders in the faith community. CA/NCF
