Award Information
The Hopi Tribe will utilize the implementation funds to serve tribal youth and young adults in the 12 communities of the Hopi Reservation. Approximately fifty juveniles and young adults,per year, will enter the program as part of a plea agreement, during arraignment, after adjudication or as a condition of sentencing. In addition, approximately 30 to 100 family members will receive treatment and ancillary services. The length of the program is 18 months. The goals of the Hopi Tribal Court are to promote public safety while protecting due process rights, restore the tribe's young people to dignity and productive living, and reduce substance abuse and its related delinquent activity. The Hopi Tribal Court will incorporate both western and native traditional methods of educational development, therapy and life skills enhancement.
