Description

The Town of Old Saybrook is the fiscal agent for the Local Prevention Council. The coalition serves the community of Old Saybrook, Connecticut which has a large suburban population of 10,414. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and of strengthening community anti-drug coalitions, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) increase the perception of the harmful effects of substance abuse through the implementation of "Healthy Communities - Healthy Youth," a science-based program;
2) sponsor a youth mentoring program to enhance relationships and interactions among youth-adult to youth mentoring, peer mentoring, and community service;
3) provide a Parent Education Program to engage parents at key developmental transition periods so they can help strengthen family communication, promote family bonding, and help prevent youth substance abuse; and
4) recruit new members and strengthen the existing community collaboration and initiatives.
