FY 2004 Continuation Drug-Free Communities Support Program

Humbolt County is the fiscal agent for the Frontier Community Coalition. The coalition serves Nevada's Humboldt, Lander and Pershing counties, rural area with a population of approximately 28,600 Nevadans. The collaborative prevention effort supported by the Frontier Community Coalition addresses the goals of decreasing substance abuse of youth and of increasing collaboration by implementing the following strategies:
1) Expand the scope and availability of prevention services for youth and families through a research based community-building process;
2) Improve access to substance abuse services by supporting a prevention specialist position that facilitates a Tri-County prevention system that implements research based services through community partners including local schools, juvenile probation, and community based organizations; and
3) Increase collaboration within communities and among public and private agencies through community-based task groups known as Local Coalition Committees.
