Description

The Town of Clinton is the fiscal agent for the First Selectman's Task Force on Substance Abuse. The coalition serves the coastal community of Clinton, Connecticut with a year-round population of 13,300 and seasonal population of 20,000. The primary goals of the coalition are to: 1) reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults and; 2) strengthen community antidrug coalitions. To achieve these goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) increase the perception of the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs through targeted outreach to youth and parents;
2) sponsor alternative activities for youth;
3) support youth leadership opportunities and coordinate two Youth Councils;
4) increase public awareness about specific issues and programs related to underage substance use through a comprehensive media campaign; and,
5) recruit members to strengthen the community coalition.
