Award Information
Franklin-Williamson Human Services is the fiscal agent for the Marion Partnership for Youth. The coalition serves the rural community of Greater Marion, Illinois with a population of 20,737. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and of strengthening the existing coalition, the Marion Partnership for Youth will employ the following strategies:
1) implement evidence-based prevention programs for youth, parents and community to reduce known risk factors and build protective factors that influence youth substance use;
2) refine and expand after-school programs to include a variety of services that address multiple risk factors such as additional education opportunities via parent workshops and classroom presentations;
3) facilitate cooperation among multiple youth-serving organizations through coalition programs focused on prevention programs, referral or accessibility to evaluation and, if necessary, treatment services;
4) increase the perception of the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco, and alcohol through a targeted media awareness campaign; and
5) strengthen the coalition through membership development, training, and increased collaboration with new community organizations.
