Award Information
The Massachusetts Trial Court-Hampden County Juvenile Court will use grant funds to implement a juvenile drug court which targets nonviolent juvenile, substance abusing offenders. The goals are to reduce crime, to reduce substance abuse and to strengthen families. The program will serve 150 juveniles and family members over 3 years. Clients are expected to participate in the program for a minimum of 6-12 months. The drug court will provide intensive judicial supervision, treatment, mandatory drug testing, graduated sanctions, aftercare and other rehabilitative services. Additionally, a management information system will be utilized to monitor client progress and to conduct process and outcome evaluations. The program will provide collateral services such as tutoring, mentoring, recreation, transportation, mental and primary health care and educational services. The Hampden County Juvenile Drug Court will coordinate its efforts with the following agencies: Springfield School District, Western Massachusetts School Drug and Alcohol Counselors Association, Baystate Medical Center and the University of New Hampshire.
