The Nez Perce Tribe Social Services Child Protection Services (CPS) will provide services to enrolled Nez Perce tribal members or those who could be eligible for enrollment from birth to seventeen years of age. The main CPS goal is to improve services to victims of child abuse/neglect, with an emphasis on prevention and family strengthening. CPS coordinates and facilitates child abuse awareness and prevention training to the Nez Perce Tribal community. CPS also coordinates the foster care program for Minor-In-Need-Of-Care (MINOC) placements and for emergency child protection shelter. CPS strives for on-going review and improvement to the Children's Code of the Nez Perce Tribe's Law and Order Code.
This Congressional Earmark grant will specifically be used to provide support services to clients, to staff the child protection office with a professionally licensed social worker supervisor who will implement the goals and responsibilities of the office, and an Office Assistant who will intake client information.
Child Protection Services output indicators will include: a full-time Licensed Social Worker; a full-time Children's Home staff member to provide direct service to clients; quarterly trainings to be held for staff and clients served; publication and dissemination of a community prevention/awareness brochure on abuse and neglect; CPS and Children's Home staff Indian Child Welfare Act training, appropriate placement for minors in need of care, and the research and development of an operating database. Short term outcomes will include: increased knowledge by the Nez Perce Tribal community on the prevalence of child abuse and neglect and monthly trainings for CPS staff. CPS long-term outcomes will include: provision of continual support services as needed to increase wellness and stability to families served; families being reunited permanently; and increased collaboration with community partners to provide needed services for client stability.

Description
The Nez Perce Tribe will review and manage on-going child abuse and neglect cases on the Nez Perce Reservation, implement the Family Strengthening Program with identified families, and support the Children's Home which provides safe and secure temporary shelter for children in need. The Nez Perce Tribe will report on performance measures including number of youth served via case management, number for families served via the Family Strengthening Program, and the increase in community awareness via community education and training initiatives.
