This award continues a longitudinal study of alcohol, drug, and mental (ADM) disorders in juvenile detainees. The sample includes 1829 delinquent youth age 10 to 18 at baseline interviews, which occurred between 1995 and 1998. The study examines the development and progression of ADM disorders; patterns of and barriers to service usage; and the development of dangerous behaviors associated with drug use, violence, and HIV/AIDS risk behaviors.

Description
This project continues the work of grant #1999-JE-FX-1001, a longitudinal study of alcohol, drug and mental disorders in detained youth. This project examines the progression and remission of these disorders among the youth as they age; youth service needs, barriers to service access, and service utilization; and patterns of risky behavior related to drug use, violence, and HIV/AIDS risk behaviors.
The grantee will report on relevant performance measures such as: subject retention; number of follow-up interviews conducted during the period of the grant; and number and content of papers and presentations completed by researchers involved with the grant.
