Delivery of Education Tutorial Services to Children of Prisoners Located in the Gang Reduction and Intervention Program Pilot Areas

The U.S. Dream Academy proposes to develop a collaborative model that will provide a continuum of services and care for young people within communities of high risk in the District of Columbia (DC). The objectives of this model are: to identify and build a collaboration of existing programs in the District of Columbia focused on preventing and/or addressing juvenile delinquency; and to develop a comprehensive strategic plan to coordinate the work of members of the collaboration. The comprehensive strategic plan will focus on building the capacity of the collaborative to expand or develop further innovative models; building capacity of members to effectively partner with other service providers; administering the implementation of funding in support of the strategic plan; and documenting the process, successes, challenges and best practices in order to replicate the model in other cities. As part of the coalition building process and the strategic plan, the U.S. Dream Academy will build the capacity of the two local Dream Academy Programs to work collaboratively with other partners. Description
The U.S. Dream Academy (USDA) was founded in 1998 with the mission to empower at-risk youth, to maximize their potential by providing them with academic, social and values' enrichment through supportive mentoring and technology. USDA proposes to provide 'early and proactive intervention' to 1,000 children of incarcerated parents as well as those falling behind in school as part of the new Department of Justice's Anti-Gang Initiative. This initiative will focus on three strategies in the fight against gangs: 'prevention, prosecution and prisoner re-entry.' The Academy will work with this initiative to reduce gang activities in three targeted locations. These areas will be determined after the Academy meet with the representatives from the anti-gang initiative.
USDA will use extensive personalized learning strategies delivered by a web-deployable, self-paced instructional platform, developed by the Academy's information technology partner. USDA will use 'InspireWorks' as a method of collecting data on its program effort. NCA/NCF
