Expertise in Evidence-Based Practice for Sexual Behavior in Youth: Improving Community-Based Management for Youth, Victims, and Families

Using OJJDP funds, the University of OK Health Sciences Center will target late childhood and early adolescence for comprehensive and early intervention management strategies to address sexual behavior problems (SBP) of youth and the effects on child victims and families has a high potential for impact. Efforts will focus on implementing a comprehensive evidence-based practices (EBP) for youth with sexual behavior problems (SBP) and child victims. In addition, the grantee will conduct the following activities: (a) implement a comprehensive evaluation of current and future sites, systems change and outcomes for the youth, victims, and family members and (b) providing ongoing support for the National Center on the Sexual Behavior of Youth (NCSBY). Supporting NCSBY will include the following objectives: 1) bring the NCSBY.org website up-to-date with all current research findings; 2) revise Fact Sheets as needed; and, 3) provide T/TA for the OJJDP YSBP sites to professionals in juvenile justice, mental health, child welfare, medicine, education, law, and law enforcement. Description
This program is a collaboration between OJJDP and the Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART), and is authorized by the Missing Children's Assistance Act, 42 USC § 5773, and 42 USC 13941. The Center on Child Abuse and Neglect will contiue to collaborate with the three demonstration site grantees funded under the Youth with Sexual Behavior Problems Program to examine current community-based management systems and identify barriers and supports to evidence-based practice implementation and sustainability. Short-term and intermediate training and technical assistance to reach specific program goals will be developed for each of the three sites. In addition, these funds will allow for: (a) implementing a comprehensive evaluation of current and future sites systems change and outcomes for the youth, victims, and family members and (b) reinstituting NCSBY. Supporting NCSBY would include the following objectives: 1) bring the NCSBY.org website up-to-date with all current research findings; 2) revise Fact Sheets as needed; and, 3) provide T/TA for the OJJDP YSBP sites to professionals in juvenile justice, mental health, child welfare, medicine, education, law, and law enforcement.
