OJJDP FY 2011 Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Block Grant Program
Note:
This awardee has received supplemental funding. This award detail page includes information about both the original award and supplemental awards.
OJJDP's State and Community Development Awards program was established to provide grants and cooperative agreements to organizations that OJJDP has selected for funds in prior years. This program has been authorized by an Act appropriating funds for the Department of Justice. The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age. Local law enforcement officers will conduct compliance checks, probation checks, and respond to all reported underage drinking parties.
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) is requesting financial assistance from the EUDL program to provide funding for innovative program strategies involving regional activities aimed at preventing underage drinking as well as to have a formal evaluation conducted of a program identified as a promising strategy for preventing and reducing underage drinking in a local community. Each of the strategies contains a number of activities which, when employed together, we hope will have wide-ranging, long-term impact on the reduction and prevention of underage drinking in Indiana. Description
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) plans to create a pilot project to address underage and/or binge drinking on college campuses. This project is to be conducted in two phases. The first phase informs students of the impending operation of underage drinking task forces operating on or near college campuses. The second phase involves the formation of multi-jurisdictional task force of area law enforcement officers working with the Indiana State Excise Police to target underage drinking, binge drinking activities, the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors, the furnishing of these beverages to minors, and the possession of alcoholic beverages by those too young to possess them.
