Award Information
With OJJDP funds, the Illinois Juvenile Justice Commission (Commission), the State Advisory Group, will support IDJJ's efforts to achieve PREA compliance. IDJJ is developing a strategic plan that will bring their facilities in compliance with PREA. This includes larger goals, including staffing ratios and regular comprehensive training, which are longer-term initiatives. These funds will be used for short-term projects that can be accomplished within months rather than years, including DVD videos to instruct youth on sexual misconduct and reporting victimization, a youth handbook providing clear information, and laminated posters to be posted in a ubiquitous manner throughout facilities. As a result, confined youth will have greater knowledge of appropriate boundaries with staff and peers, along with information on reporting abuse. NCA/NCF
