The FY 2016 Reducing Reliance on Confinement and Improving Community-Based Responses for Girls at Risk of Entering the Juvenile Justice System will strengthen and expand the use of community-based and gender and culturally responsive programs for girls and promote the development of girls and their individual strengths.
The PACE Center for Girls, Inc. (PACE) will devise a strategy to strengthen and increase partnerships, and develop a plan to implement a comprehensive Trauma-Informed Academic Model to reduce reliance on suspension and expulsion and employ school-based interventions that use proactive approaches to address the underlying cause of behavior and reinforce pro-social behaviors among adolescent girls. PACE will deliver a three-year implementation strategy designed to enhance current service delivery practices and procedures, ensuring that: 1) at least 2,000 girls receive trauma-informed, gender-responsive services that address their academic and social service needs so that the out-of-school suspension practice is eliminated; 2) utilize collaborative efforts between to identify girls in need of PACE services are strengthened and enhanced; 3) evidence-based Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports are implemented at all 19 Centers; 4) collaboration between Academic and Social Service staff is enhanced to deliver coordinated services; and 5) staff members receive a professional development training plan to support the implementation plan.
